Configuration
ProofTrail reads its settings from .env. After changing it, recreate the containers with docker compose up -d so all three read the new values.
ProofTrail sends sign-in links, task reminders, digests, policy requests and trust center access emails. Any SMTP service works:
| Setting | What it is |
|---|---|
MAIL_HOST, MAIL_PORT |
Your SMTP server, usually on port 587 |
MAIL_USERNAME, MAIL_PASSWORD |
Its credentials |
MAIL_FROM_ADDRESS, MAIL_FROM_NAME |
Who the emails come from |
Health alerts
ProofTrail checks itself: the queue and the scheduler are running, backups are recent, the disk has room and the license is valid. Set HEALTH_TO_ADDRESS to be emailed when one of those fails. The admin panel also shows them in Settings › System health.
Backups
| Setting | What it is |
|---|---|
BACKUP_TO_ADDRESS |
Who is told when a backup fails |
BACKUP_ARCHIVE_PASSWORD |
Encrypts the backup archives when set |
BACKUP_DISKS |
Where they go: backups (the default, inside storage), and s3 to keep a copy elsewhere |
To keep a copy off the server, add s3 to BACKUP_DISKS and set AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID, AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY, AWS_DEFAULT_REGION and AWS_BUCKET. Any S3-compatible storage works; set AWS_ENDPOINT and AWS_USE_PATH_STYLE_ENDPOINT=true for one that isn't Amazon's. Backups explains what they contain.
Your company's timezone
The daily jobs run in the timezone set in Settings › Company. Restart the scheduler after changing it, with docker compose restart scheduler.
