Terms and license

Last updated on October 30, 2026.

ProofTrail is made by Anthony Laibe, an independent developer in France. These terms cover buying a ProofTrail license and running ProofTrail. If something here is unclear, write to [email protected].

The software license

ProofTrail’s code is published under the Elastic License 2.0. You may read and change it for your own installations, but you may not offer ProofTrail to others as a hosted or managed service, and you may not move, change, disable or get around its license key check.

What a license key gives you

A key lets your organization run ProofTrail on one production and one staging installation at a time, for as long as it runs, with every update released while it runs. It runs for a year from the purchase and renews each year until you turn renewal off. There is no limit on users, employees, auditors or trust center visitors.

The key belongs to your organization: don’t share or resell it. To move it to another server, deactivate an installation in your account.

Paying

Payments are handled by Stripe through Link, which sells the license as merchant of record. Link appears on your receipt and bank statement, adds sales tax or VAT where it applies, and its payment terms cover the transaction itself.

The price is $20 a year per installation, shown in your currency at checkout. A renewal charges the price shown when it renews; you get an email before each one. You can turn renewal off at any time from your account or from Link, and the license then runs to the end of the year you’ve paid for.

Checking the license

To activate, ProofTrail sends account.laibe.cc your key, a random id for the installation, its host name, and its environment and PHP version. It checks in again every night, and keeps working with a banner when it can’t reach the server. It never sends your compliance data. The privacy policy has the details.

When a license ends

If a license lapses, is refunded or is revoked, ProofTrail shows a banner, and after 30 days its compliance workspace waits on the license page until you renew or enter another key. The employee portal, the auditor portal, the public trust center and exports keep working, and nothing is deleted. A license may be revoked if its key is shared publicly or its payment is reversed.

Refunds

You can get your money back within 14 days of a purchase or a renewal. The refund policy explains how.

The software

ProofTrail is provided as it is. It helps you run a compliance program, but it is not legal advice, and passing an audit depends on your controls and your auditor. You run it on your own infrastructure and are responsible for that infrastructure, its backups and its security, and for the services you connect to it, whose own terms apply.

Apart from what the law doesn’t allow to be limited, Anthony Laibe’s liability for ProofTrail is limited to what you paid for it in the twelve months before the problem.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the new version is published here with its date, and applies from your next renewal. These terms are governed by French law.
