HIPAA
HIPAA is the US federal law that protects health information, and this framework covers its Security Rule and Breach Notification Rule. The Security Rule requires administrative, physical and technical safeguards for electronic protected health information (ePHI), and the Breach Notification Rule sets out who must be told, and how fast, when unsecured PHI is compromised. It applies to covered entities such as health plans, healthcare clearinghouses and most healthcare providers, and to business associates, including SaaS and health tech vendors, that create, receive, maintain or transmit PHI on their behalf.
