CMMC Level 2

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program is how the US Department of Defense verifies that its contractors protect the information it shares with them. Level 2 covers Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and requires all 110 security requirements of NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2, grouped into 14 domains, together with a system security plan. Depending on the contract, compliance is shown through a self-assessment or a certification assessment by an authorized third-party assessor (C3PAO) every three years, with results and an annual affirmation of continuing compliance entered in SPRS. It applies to defense contractors and subcontractors at every tier whose contracts involve CUI.
